Twos & Threes

Does it seem like there are more and more cases of twins/multiples in Hollywood these days? Organic Names

ORGANIC NAMES ~ The term organic pertains to a class of chemical compounds that comprise those existing in or derived from plants, animals and all other compounds of carbon as well as characteristic of, pertaining to, or derived from living organisms. In fine arts, the term organic pertains to the shapes or forms in a work of art that are of irregular contour and seem to resemble or suggest forms found in nature. In architectural terms it pertains to any work of architecture regarded as analogous to plant or animal forms in having a structure and a plan that fulfill perfectly the functional requirements for the building and that form in themselves an intellectually lucid, integrated whole. And in the world of Celebrity, organic names seem to follow the irregular contour of trendy baby names. Colour & Gem Names

COLOURS & GEMS ~ Primary colours appear to be grounded in nature and are all around us. When you get into various secondary, tertiary and shades of colour is when colours can be subject to interpretation much like colour names themselves. Take yellow for example, it has been traced to an Indo-European root "ghel" or "gohl" which seems to have denoted both yellow and green. This terms has evolved into many forms in the English language such as jaundice (from Latin galbus “greenish-yellow”, via French), gold (“golden-yellow” is a tautology) and yolk (the yellow in an egg).

The word blue was born from the Indo-European root "bhlewos", meaning “yellow”, and evolved into the Greek phalos, “white” and in Old English to “pale” and “the colour of bruised skin”. It seems that the English word as we know it actually closer to the French form.

Green has it's roots in nature and evolves from the idea of growing things and comes from the same Germanic root as grow.

Red is a relative to both the Greek "eruthros" and to the English words russet, ruby, ruddy and just plain old rust. Auburn can mean both “golden-brown” or “reddish-brown” but seems to connote the later for most.

Purple refers to dye extracted from a species of Mediterranean shellfish, which was so rare and valuable that it was reserved for royal garments. However, like most natural dyes, the colour varies and could at times be crimson (the colour of cardinals’ robes).

Many other more moder colour words are simply the actual colour or name of something such as cinnamon, lime, silver, chocolate, peach, amber, eggplant, orange etc.

Gem names and precious stones also are reflective of colour names such as aquamarine, turquoise, jade, coral etc.

Colour names are a bold choice with flair and appear to be a popular choice amongst Celebrities. Colours can be true colours like Blue or Violet or can connote a colour such as Melanie meaning dark.
