Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt Twins

UPDATE ~ The twins will be making their world exclusive debut on People tonight at 7 p.m. EDT. We will not be posting the picture, please click on People to view.

UPDATE ~ Jokingly calling Brad "my assistant," the ob/gyn revealed that the new dad cut Knox and Vivienne's umbilical cords after their deliveries, saying, "He was ... perfectly calm, totally determined, very pleased to be at the birth of his children, very moved and very emotional."

THE TWINS HAVE ARRIVED!!! ~ Brad was at Angelina's side the whole time. Angelina delivered the couple's son and daughter via c-section on July 12th, 2008 in Nice, France, People confirms. "The babies are doing well. The operation went just perfectly," Dr. Michel Sussmann reports. "Angelina is in very good spirits. Brad Pitt was at her side. He was there and all was well." Son Knox Leon arrived first at 6:27 p.m., weighing in at 5.3 lbs, while daughter Vivienne Marcheline was born within a minute and weighed in at 5 lbs. The twins are the fifth and sixth children for Jolie, 33, and partner Brad Pitt, 44, who are already parents to Maddox Chivan, 6; Pax Thien, 4; Zahara Marley, 3; and Shiloh Nouvel, 2. "The mother and father are very, very happy," Sussmann told People. The doctor also told the Associated Press that the Cesarean was moved forward "for medical reasons" so that the babies could be born "in the best conditions." He also said Jolie is expected to stay in the hospital for a few days, which is normal.

Knox ~ Old English; round top hill, from the hills. Irish/Scottish; from the hillod.

Leon ~ Latin; lion.

Vivienne ~ French; spelling variation of Vivian ~ Latin/English; full of life, lively.

  • Rosie & Kelly O'Donnell's daughter is Vivienne

Knox is the middle name of Brad's grandfather (Hal Knox Hillhouse). The Jolie-Pitts have also started their own tradition; instead of their sons having alliterative first names, they share instead a final letter "x," and for their middle names, final letter "n." Leon is the name of Angelina's great-great grandfather.

Vivienne, in it's French form reflects the twin's place of birth and perhaps it too will be noted that it is of family origin for the Jolie-Pitts. Marcheline is an obvious tribute to Angelina's late mother who was of French-Canadian and Native American heritage.

Ooo I love those names!! Isla and Amelie are stunning, and Marcheline is really pretty too :) Different, but I like it. These are my faves out of all their kids' names.
